Set up PayPal for your shop

Connect PayPal as a payment method by entering your API credentials and enabling it at checkout.

Connecting PayPal lets your customers pay for orders in your shop with their PayPal account. Setup has two parts: enter your PayPal API credentials, then add PayPal as a payment type so it shows up at checkout.

Enter your PayPal API credentials

Go to Shop → Configuration → Integrations. In the PayPal section, fill in:

  • User ID — your PayPal API username.
  • Password — your PayPal API password.
  • Signature — your PayPal API signature.
  • Payment environment — choose Test to try PayPal in PayPal's sandbox, or Live to accept real payments.

Click Save once all three credential fields are filled in.

Enable PayPal as a payment type

Entering credentials connects PayPal to your shop, but customers only see it at checkout once it's added as a payment type:

  1. Go to Shop → Configuration → Payment types.
  2. Click Create new.
  3. Set the Type dropdown to Paypal, give it a Name, set an Order to control where it appears among your other payment types, and check Is visible.
  4. Click Save.

Customers now see PayPal alongside your other payment types during checkout.

Turn PayPal off again

To temporarily hide PayPal at checkout without deleting the configuration, open the PayPal payment type on the Payment types screen and clear Is visible, then save. Your PayPal credentials on the Integrations screen stay untouched.
